Yay! I was so happy to receive a copy of this months version of Southbay Magazine. A few months back Alan and I worked with interior designer Anna Hackthorn to document her work in Palos Verdes. The imagery was sent to the magazine and selected for publishing. Now we have a five page spread dedicated to our work. How exciting!! Adel and Mashel's Engagement Party

Alan and I had the opportunity to document Adel and Mashel's eventful engagement celebration. Mashel looked beautiful in her colorful hijab...she's going to make for one beautiful bride!! It was very nice to see how supportive their family and friends were. They were excited to witness this celebration and were eager to capture it on film. At one point I felt like I was surrounded by paparazzi...family and friends literally created a circle around them during the exchange of the rings and I had no idea because I was right smack in the middle. Good times! Congrats again Adel and Mashel!!!

Mango-Pineapple Salmon

I don't really get to cook as often as I'd like...but yesterday I managed to make time and create this fantastic summer dinner. I was so proud of it, I had to take a picture. It's so easy to make! It just requires a lot of chopping but that's about it. Here's a list of the ingredients for the salsa.

1 cup fresh pineapple
1 cup mango
juice of 1 lemon and lime
1 tomato
1/2 cup red bell pepper
green onion
1/4 cup of cilantro
pinch of salt
*if you like some spice add jalapeno

I pan seared fresh salmon after coating it with garlic, onion, and paprika seasoning...then put it over a bed of rice cooked in chicken broth and broccoli. MMMmm, yummers! And of course you can't forget the lime flavored tortilla chips.

I had so much fun working with Ari! She had lots of energy and literally ran circles around me as I tried to capture some shots of her. The only thing that got this little ball of energy to stop and sit for a while was some ice cream and a lolly pop. It makes me smile when I look through her shoot...she is absolutely ADORABLE!! I just wanna squeeze her :).

Ari seriously loved this lolly pop, I mean just look at her eyes and her grip...she's so in the zone! So focused, not a care in the world...completely forgot about me snapping away. I LOVE it!

Our Drive to Lake Arrowhead

A few weeks ago Alan and I headed up towards Lake Arrowhead for his work winter party. We drove right through some thick clouds only to get a glimpse of this beautiful sight. I don't know about you but this totally reminds me of The Neverending Story...I feel like Falcor's just gonna pop his head out from under the clouds. A flying, oversized, talking dog (my bad, he's actually a luck dragon)...that would be awesome! Haha...anyways, hope you enjoy the pic's :).

New Year's at Big Bear Lake

Happy New Year everyone!! Big Bear has always held a special place in my heart. Many years ago I came here on a church retreat for confirmation. This also happens to be the place where I met Alan :). Anyways...this year I spent New Year's weekend in a cabin with a bunch of friends beside Big Bear Lake. It is absolutely gorgeous out there any time of the year. It's peaceful and the landscape makes it extremely easy to get away from the rush and enjoy the quiet and beautiful things in life. Enjoy :).

A Day at the Pumpkin Patch : Irvine

An average visit to the pumpkin patch turned out to be quite a special day. I've been extremely busy with school and work that it's literally taken over the majority of my time (except of course a few hours of sleep here and there, and occasional breaks for eating). So anyways, I basically have been dying to get a break and enjoy some time outside doing anything except school work. Alan and I decided to go to this awesome pumpkin patch that had everything you can dream of. Horseback riding, a lake, bike rentals, boat rentals, food...EVERYTHING.

So guess what happened at the pumpkin patch...SURPRISE!! Alan proposed! Apparently he had been planning the proposal for the past two months but my crazy schedule kept changing things up on him. Despite that he still managed to plan a two day fiasco making me feel like such a queen :). From here on out every time I see a pumpkin I'm going to remember this special day.

Autumn Lights Los Angeles 2010

Alright, this post is so long overdue. Better late than never! Back in September Alan and I went to Pershing Square in downtown LA to see local artists go crazy using the medium of light. There was music, video, installations, paintings...you name it. It was pretty cool overall but I have to admit, I was a little freaked out by some of the installations. You have to go and check it out for yourself to know what I'm talking about. So anyways, the photographs below were all done by Alan. He's been a superb apprentice and is on his way to becoming an exceptional photographer.

San Diego Mini Vacation

This past weekend my boyfriend took me on a mini vacation to beautiful San Diego. He's a landscape architect and enjoys visiting gardens and great parks. Lucky for me...I get to go to all these places :). So if you're a lover of architecture, plants, or maybe just enjoy museums...you gotta go to Balboa Park. It's GORGEOUS and there's so much to see. Lot's of photo opportunities for all you photographers out there.

The shot right above was actually taken by my boyfriend, Alan. I absolutely love the composition and am thrilled that he's picking up the art and technical sides of photography rather quickly. I guess he must have a good teacher ;).

We didn't know what plant this was...but it smelled sooo good!

So we made a few stops while in San Diego. Went to Old Town of course and got some authentic Mexican food, freshly made tortillas and street tacos...you can't forget about the street tacos. Old Town is cool cuz you have great food, awesome music (if you like mariachi) and loads of shops with plenty of eye candy.

South Coast Plaza : Happy Hour

Just a few days ago I met with a couple of old high school friends to share ideas on design and photography. They're starting a design/marketing company that integrates the latest in technology and I'm pretty excited for them. I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peak at their identity design and also shared some advice on the technicalities of photography.

And oh my gosh, this food was soo good. We decided to eat at this place called Hamamori on the third floor of South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Yelp had numerous awesome ratings but also warned that it could get a little pricey. Lucky for us without even knowing, we got a pretty amazing deal for happy hour pricing. We got shiitake mushroom, calamari appetizers, so many rolls and drinks. I can't even believe we finished all that food, lol. Not to mention the place is pretty nice. Large windows and beautiful natural light...minimalistic light fixtures and decor, beautiful rippled textures on the walls, soft and subdued color scheme...maybe even a little romantic in the evening (wish I had interior shots). Definitely worth it and you can bet your money you'll find me there again. I recommend you go if you're ever near by.

This past weekend my boyfriend and I went back to San Luis Obipso to visit old stompin grounds and spent some quality time with his sister Maritza. She's a senior soon to be a Cal Poly Business grad minoring in Graphic Communications. Let me tell you...this girl knows how to have a good time. We stayed in San Luis for just a few days and she jam packed our mini vacation with eventful outings...MGMT concert at Avila Beach, skimboarding at Pismo and a late night bonfire by the ocean. Thanks Maritza! I had a great time :).

Oak Glen Engagement: Monica and Joe

Oh my gosh this day was so insane. Talk about crazy weather!! Not only did it rain, it also hailed and yes... it snowed!! I'm not talking about just a little bit of snow. No, this was winter wonderland status in late spring. Definitely something unrealistic and magical especially since Monica and Jo were willing to go through with the shoot. I am so glad they did! Los Rios Ranchos in Oak Glen made for an absolute photographers playground. So lucky we stuck it out cuz eventually the sun came out and the lighting was amazing. Oh and by the way, if anybody is looking for some bomb home made apple pies...you must go to Oak Glen. Their apple crisp pie is absolutely delicious!

You can't even tell from the photos but we were all freezing! Our fingers were numb, teeth chattering...you name it. Monica and Jo were such troopers!

Jo really started to enjoy himself towards the end of the shoot...he even had some ideas of his own!

I could not have done this shoot without my trusty assistant Claudia which also happens to be Monica's sister and my college roommate/best friend. Thanks again Claudia...you did a great job holding the umbrella over us :). Just kidding, you were awesome with everything!!

Hanging Out

Sundays are always good days I look forward to. I usually get together with my family and go to church, eat and just hang out. It gives us time to catch up since we all have such crazy busy schedules. Food is always delicious!! We usually eat out but this particular time my mom and oldest brother cooked a yummy lunch that included carne and chicken asada tacos, a variety of freshly prepared salsas, black beans, rice, corn on the cob and salad. The weather was also very cooperative this weekend. After feasting we all just hung out, enjoyed good conversation, and enjoyed the pleasant weather.

Just yesterday I was outside with my boyfriend teaching him some stuff about taking pictures. He did pretty well but had some trouble nailing the focus with the shallow depth of field and subjects that wouldn't quit moving. Fun stuff!! I love what I do :).

Orange County Great Park : Irvine

Feast your eyes on $70,000 worth of helium...UP has nothing on this!!

The Orange County Great Park Corporation is a non profit organization that's constructing a metropolitan park within the city limits of Irvine. When the park is completed it will be about two times the size of New York's Central Park. The park will not only include sports fields and botanical gardens, but it will also provide residents with concert halls and several other amenities. I had the privilege of visiting the park at its early stages and enjoyed a ride on a helium balloon lift. Best thing about it...it was FREE!! I really can't wait for the park to be completed. It'll make for some good times at the farmers market, a stroll at the park, or more beautiful views from above. For more info check out Orange County Great Park.

After going to OC Great Park we headed over to Irvine Spectrum to watch the ice skaters.

Pasadena Rose Parade

Had the opportunity to see the the Pasadena Rose Floats up close and personal the day after the parade. Was a pretty spectacular thing to see. So many flowers, so much creativity, really a pretty awesome experience.

Antelope Valley, Palmdale Photo Shoot: Emily and Ricardo

I absolutely love this time of year! The color in the leaves makes for a beautiful backdrop to any portrait session. The only thing is they don't last for too long...crazy, typical Antelope Valley/Palmdale wind blow the leaves right off. We got semi lucky during this session. The wind wasn't too bad but on the other hand it was absolutely freezing and it actually started sprinkling towards the end. So I lied, we weren't lucky at all. But at least we managed to get a great shot.

Antelope Valley Maternity Portrait Session : Mae and Jimmy

These pictures should have been up so long ago! I've totally been neglecting my poor blog. School, work, and a million other things have been keeping me super, insanely busy. Sincerest apologies to my dear blog.

So about the pictures...

This is Mae and Jimmy starring in their very first pregnancy. These were taken on June 18 and baby Lucas was born on June 27. Actually, you can take a look at his newborn pictures if you scroll down the page.

The shoot was pretty fun! Jimmy was making funny faces throughout the session and the outtakes are hilarious. They make me laugh every time. Congrats again Mae and Jimmy :).

I've never tried shooting fireworks and decided to give it a shot this year. All in all I'm happy with the outcome but you probably won't ever find me doing this again. I didn't enjoy the fireworks as much as a usually do :(. Ah well, it wasn't a complete waste.

Fourth of July has always been a real chill holiday for the family. We usually do BBQ at the park super early in the day then do late night fireworks show at the local high school. This year we did BBQ at my folks house which was nice. I was able to explore my moms back yard and have a little fun with my camera.

Baby Lucas was born on June 27 at 2:02 pm. He weighed in at 7.5 lbs and measured 22 inches long. He's so cute! He's got his mothers eyes, nose, his fathers mouth, hands, and feet. Just a couple hours old and he was already sucking his thumb!! What a pro! This little man really is a bundle of joy. I can't wait to see him all grown up, talking, and running circles around his parents. Haha!! Congrats Mae and Jimmy!! I think you guys are doing an amazing job at this whole mommy and daddy thing. You guys have been so loving, your family and friends so supportive, Lucas is going to grow up to be a great son. Love you guys :).

I absolutely love and miss San Luis Obispo!! If you ever get the chance to go...GO!! When in town you must, I repeat...MUST visit Montana De Oro. It's got to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in the central coast. You won't know what I'm talking about until you go and explore for yourself.
